Executive committee
The day-to-day management of Tata Steel in Europe is conducted through its Executive Committee, the senior decision-making body which also sets strategic priorities.
Dr Henrik Adam Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel in Europe
Henrik became Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Tata Steel in Europe in July 2019.

In 2011, Henrik joined the Executive Committee of Tata Steel in Europe as Chief Commercial Officer, with responsibility for the commercial function, a large network of Service/ Distribution Centres across Europe, and market & sales offices around the world. Henrik has led Tata Steel's European activities in order to transform it into a customer-focused organisation.

Born in Essen in Germany, Henrik is a mechanical engineer, who has specialised in the field of automotive engineering notably in the application of materials in vehicle design.?He started his career in 1991 as a scientist in vehicle safety technologies before becoming Managing Director of a German engineering services consultancy company.

Before joining Tata Steel, Henrik was CEO of thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel and a Member of the Board of Eisen- und Hüttenwerke AG, the stock exchange listed holding company for the tinplate and electrical steel businesses of thyssenkrupp. Prior to this, he held a wide range of responsibilities at thyssenkrupp since 1998, including Chairman of the Board of thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel India, Chairman of the Board of thyssenkrupp Steel Japan, CTO of thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel and Senior Vice President Sales and Engineering Auto.

Henrik has been a Director of EEF (now called?Make UK), the UK’s manufacturers’ organisation, and Chairman of?WorldAutoSteel, the automotive group of the?World Steel Association?which successfully released multiple projects including UltraLight Steel Auto Body and FutureSteelVehicle.

Sandip Biswas, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Tata Steel in Europe
Mr Sandip Biswas is an honours graduate in commerce from Calcutta University.

He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and also the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

Sandip was formerly the Group Executive Vice President, Finance, for Tata Steel Limited, where he oversaw the group’s financing strategies, including capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, planning and execution of capital raising activities for debt and equity, liquidity management and investor relations activities.

He joined Tata Steel in 2005 as the Chief Foreign Exchange & Treasury Management following 12 years working in financial services in foreign exchange and global markets.

Mr Tor Farquhar, Executive Director Human Resources
Tor was appointed to Tata Steel Europe as Group Human Resources Director and member of the Executive Committee from 1 October 2007.

Born in Braystones, UK, Tor has degrees in Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh, and Theology from the University of Glasgow. He spent the early part of his career at BP, working in various HR roles across Europe and Asia in the Exploration and Refining and Marketing businesses.

Following BP, Tor was Group HR Director at Npower, and held senior HR positions at its predecessor companies, National Power and International Power. From 2002 to 2007 he was Group HR Director for Alfred McAlpine.

Tor is married and has two children.

Karl Haider, Chief Commercial Officer
Karl was appointed Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Steel Europe on 11 November 2019 and is a member of the Executive Committee.

Born in the Austrian city of Freistadt in 1965, Karl started his professional career as an apprentice at voestalpine in 1981, quickly moving on to shift work at the heavy end and steel production. He paused his career in 1989 to study Technical Chemistry and Business Economics at the Johannes Kepler University in Austria. Karl has a PhD in Natural Science.

From 1997, Karl filled a number of sales related roles, including Product Manager and Sales Director? at the Dutch chemical company DSM from 2001 until 2006. He then returned to voestalpine, first as a project manager and then, from 2009 until 2011 as a Member of the Executive Board of the high performance metals division of voestalpine AG. Karl has been Chairman of several Supervisory Boards globally during these roles.

Karl joined Tata Steel in Europe in 2011 as Director Downstream Operations. After the Memorandum of Understanding was signed to form a potential joint venture with thyssenkrup Steel Europe, in September 2017, Karl led the Clean Team which prepared for this intended joint venture. This process ended in May 2019.

Karl is married and has a son who is doing a PhD in Physics and a daughter who is studying Economics. He enjoys sports and technology driven approaches.

Ms Helen Matheson, Director Legal and Company Secretary
Ms Helen Matheson was appointed as Director Legal, Tata Steel Europe and a member of the Tata Steel Europe Executive Committee from 1 May 2009.

Ms Matheson?supports the Executive Committee in terms of strategy implementation and its organisation and effectiveness.

Previously, she was Head of Profession and Legal Director, Markets at the Office of Gas & Electricity Markets (Ofgem), the UK energy regulator.? Prior to this, Helen worked in private practice for a firm in the City of London, and has worked in legal practice overseas in Brussels and in Philadelphia.? She is specialised in corporate and competition laws.

Ms?Matheson graduated with an LLB Hons from the University of Glasgow, and has a Masters degree in International and Comparative Laws from the Free University of Brussels. She holds a dual legal qualification in English and Scots law. She is married, and has a son and a daughter.

Ernst Hoogenes, Chief Technical Officer
Born in the Dutch city of Haarlem, Ernst studied mechanical engineering at Delft University of Technology.

In 1987, he started his professional career as Assistant Production manager in the Oxygen Steelplant of the Dutch steel company Hoogovens, which is now Tata Steel.

From 1987 until 2000, he fulfilled multiple management functions including information management, logistics, projects, and management of multiple plants. From 2006 to 2010 he was the Director Manufacturing of Corus Packaging Plus. From 2010 to 2012 he was the Director Manufacturing Rolling and Coating for Tata Steel in IJmuiden. From 2012 to 2014 he was the Managing Director of Tata Plating; Hille & Müller GmbH in Düsseldorf, Germany and Thomas Steel Strip Corporation in Ohio, USA. In 2014 he was appointed and still retains the role of Director Business Excellence. From 2016 to 2018 he was the Director for R&D Europe.

Ernst has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Hoogovens Pension Fund from 2008 to 2017 and is a member of various other Supervisory Boards.

Ernst is married and has two sons who both study medicine. He has a passion for playing golf, wine, good books and good company.

Mr T. V. Narendran is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Steel Limited.

Mr Narendran is a Mechanical Engineer from REC (NIT) Trichy and MBA from IIM Calcutta.

He is a Chevening Scholar and attended the Advanced Management Programme in CEDEP/INSEAD in France. T V is also the fellow of The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and recipient of Distinguished Alumnus Award from NIT Trichy and IIM Calcutta.

In November 2013, he became the Managing Director of Tata Steel (overseeing India and South East Asia) and on October 31, 2017 he was elevated as CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel Limited.

He is currently on the Boards of Tata Steel Limited and Tata Steel Europe and the Chairman of Tata Steel Thailand and NatSteel.

A member of the Board of World Steel Association and the Chairman of the Economics Committee of the World Steel Association, he is also the co-chair of the Mining & Metals Governors Council of the World Economic Forum. In India, he is a member of the National Council of CII and former Chairman of CII Eastern Region. He is also a member from Indian side in BRICS Business Council, Co-Chair of the India Myanmar Joint Trade & Investment Forum and a member of the Indo-French CEO council.

Mr Sandip Biswas is Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Tata Steel in Europe.

Mr Sandip Biswas is an honours graduate in commerce from Calcutta University. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and also the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

Sandip became Executive Director and a member of the Board of Tata Steel Europe in July 2019, responsible for driving the company’s transformation programme. He also became?CFO of Tata Steel Europe as of?January 1, 2020.

Dr Petrus Blauwhoff, Non - Executive Director
Dr Petrus Blauwhoff is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Tata Steel Europe.

Dr Blauwhoff holds a doctorate in Technical Sciences and has over 30 years of experience in the energy industry, in particular the downstream oil and gas business.

He has a wide range of experience in refining, supply chain, marketing and end-to-end value creation in challenging downstream organisations.

He has served as the Chairman of the German National Oil Industry Association, as Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Shell Holding GmbH and as a Vice-Chairman of the German Forum for Future Energies among others. Dr Blauwhoff is currently the Chairman of the Board of the Netherlands Standardization Institute (NEN), and a Member of the Supervisory Board of Royal Haskoning DHV.

Mr Koushick Chatterjee, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Tata Steel Limited
Mr Koushik Chatterjee is the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Tata Steel Limited.

Koushik joined Tata Steel in 1995 was appointed Vice President (Finance) in 2004.

In September 2013, Koushik was appointed as Group Executive Director (Finance & Corporate) and in February 2016, was appointed as Tata Steel’s Executive Director for Europe. He was also re-designated as Group Executive Director (Finance, Corporate & Europe). Most recently, Mr Chatterjee has been re-appointed as Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer with effect from November 9, 2017.?

Koushik is on the board of several Tata Steel Group companies. He is a member of the Primary Market Advisory Committee on Capital Markets of SEBI, a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and has been appointed as the first Indian on the Global Preparers Forum. He is also a member of the International Integrated Reporting Council, Global Task Forces on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures, Switzerland, the B20 Task Forces under the Chairmanship of Germany on Energy, Climate & Resource Efficiency, Responsible Business Conduct & Anti-Corruption and is a Director of the World Steel Association, Belgium.?

Mr Chatterjee was declared India’s ‘Best Executive’ for 2009 by Asia Money.

Dr Hans Fischer, Non-Executive Director
Dr Hans Fischer is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Tata Steel Europe.

Born in Nijmegen (the Netherlands), Hans studied mechanical engineering at Eindhoven University. In 1985, he embarked on his professional career as a project manager in the engineering department of the former Tata Steel Netherlands. He worked there until 2000 and his last position was works manager of the steelworks.

In 2001 he joined the German steel and technology group Salzgitter as Technical Managing Director. He was appointed Chairman of the Management Board of Salzgitter Flachstahl in 2004 and, later, became a member of the Executive Board of Salzgitter AG.

In 2010 Hans was appointed Chief Executive Officer of thyssenkrupp steel Americas.

He re-joined Tata Steel Europe in July 2012 as Chief Technical Officer. In March 2016, he became Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Tata Steel Europe. He retired from the position of CEO in July 2019, but continues to serve on the Board of Tata Steel Europe as a non-executive director.

Appointed as the Interim Chairman of Tata Steel from November 25, 2016 before Mr N Chandrasekaran took over, Mr O P Bhatt has been the Chairman, State Bank Group - which includes the State Bank of India, five associate banks in India, five overseas banks, SBI Life, SBI Capital Markets, SBI Fund Management; and other subsidiaries.

He has served as the Chairman of the Indian Banks’ Association, the apex body of Indian banks and was the government’s nominee on the India-US CEO Forum, Indo-French CEO Forum and Indo-Russia CEO Forum.

He currently serves as an Independent Director on several boards including Greenko Energy Holdings(GEH)., Tata Consultancy Services and Hindustan Unilever among others.
